Stated differently, students who show evidence of first-class coping skills will be more able to think clearly and show signs of top-shelf decision making as opposed to teenagers who, because they were unsuccessful in their attempts to develop top quality coping skills, gravitate to the "quick fix" of hazardous drinking. What would happen in the above "ideal" society, what's more, if adolescents not only got exceptional coping skills instruction but also received an excellent education that underscored the short term and long term negative outcomes associated with alcohol abuse and drug abuse? Emphasizing these teenage alcohol and drug abuse facts, along with more highly developed coping skills instruction, it is declared, would help teenagers keep away from the apparent charm associated with adolescent drinking and, accordingly, would drastically diminish the injurious drinking behavior demonstrated by adolescents in our country. There are indubitably many valid reasons why so many of our adolescents drink in a destructive manner. Such a thorny predicament demands a broad based and more pertinent response by our parents, educators, politicians, and students so that our youth can learn how to cope with life's problems in a more productive and accountable manner rather than gravitating to careless and abusive drinking to solve their problems.
